Who We Are & Our Process

ABOUT US

Silver Needle Sewing is a woman-owned drapery workroom based in Madison, Wisconsin, specializing in handcrafted, custom soft goods exclusively for interior designers. With nearly 20 years of experience and a team of seasoned, skilled fabricators, we bring expert craftsmanship and attention to detail to every project—whether it’s a single roman shade or a full-scale, made-to-measure installation for civic and institutional spaces.

All of our work is crafted in-house, in the USA, using time-honored sewing techniques alongside modern design innovations. We collaborate closely with design professionals to produce bespoke draperies, roman shades, cushions, bedding, and other soft goods that reflect their creative vision and meet the highest standards of quality and fit.

Our artisanal work can be seen in homes across the Midwest, as well as prominent public spaces like the Wisconsin State Capitol, the University of Wisconsin, and The Harvey House in downtown Madison.

At Silver Needle Sewing, we take pride in being a trusted partner for interior designers who value classic style, modern functionality, and true master craftsmanship.

Finished Goods Ready for Installation

At Silver Needle Sewing, we believe that exceptional results begin with thoughtful collaboration. Our process is tailored to support interior designers from the very first phase of their project.

Designers typically reach out early in the design process to consult on the best soft goods solutions for a space—whether it’s a tailored valance, roman shade, or full-length drapery. We offer guidance on design details and provide precise estimates for labor and yardage requirements based on the specifications and scope of the job.

Designers are responsible for sourcing and ordering their chosen fabrics; we do not stock fabric in-house. Once the fabric is delivered to our Madison workroom, our team of expert fabricators gets to work crafting each item with precision, care, and a deep respect for both the material and the designer’s vision.

Finished pieces are then prepared for installation, either by us or by a trusted subcontractor, depending on the project.

Our goal is to make the fabrication process seamless and stress-free, allowing our design partners to focus on what they do best—creating beautiful, functional spaces.
